Bagged Wood & Pizza Ovens

For pizza ovens, we specifically put sugar maple* in our bags which is one of the best for pizza ovens. It is split small, and cut at short lengths to make it easy to use in all sizes of pizza ovens.

*sugar maple is not available year round.

When sugar maple is not available we carry white ash in the bags which is also a good wood for pizza ovens

We now provide bags for Ooni and Roccbox Pizza Ovens

Please see info in the Ooni / Roccbox section at the bottom of the page or click the button

F.A.Q

Do you have apple wood?

No we only have sugar maple. Apple wood is extremely rare to come across unless specifically going to an apple orchard, and the trees are generally not suitable for splitting into good firewood. We use the sugar maple as it has the very high BTU that is needed for cooking pizzas & other. For apple flavour, most people will buy flavour chips which are available at stores like Canadian Tire and Walmart (store names are clickable links to a selection of products) These chips can be used on top of the sugar maple to give the flavour while also giving the high BTU needed for cooking.

Do you have Oak?

We only have sugar maple. Despite what some sites claim, Oak is not as good a wood as sugar maple. Many sites that claim oak as the best wood for pizza ovens, are written from the USA where sugar maple trees are very uncommon, so oak would be the best choice, but in Canada we have an abundance of sugar maple trees. Oak is suggested for a high BTU (British thermal units). Red Oak is listed at 27,300 BTU where as Sugar maple is 29,000 BTU therefore being the superior wood. Another reason we use sugar maple is that it smells sweet when it is burning, whereas Oak tends to have a sour smell.

How many pieces are in a bag?

There is roughly 10-12 pieces in each bag. The bags are not measured by pieces, they are actually measured by volume and are roughly 1 cubic foot. The photos above can also be used for reference.

Do I need to call/place an order?

No, we always have bags available. If you need an order over 50 bags, then you can call to ensure we have that many bags. We always have around 50 bags available.

How much do they cost?

The bags are $12 each before tax.

Is there bulk pricing available?

No, we only do retail pricing here. We provide the same price to every customer, no matter how many bags you buy.

I'm having trouble burning my wood/ How can I tell if my wood is wet?

Wet wood will sizzle out the ends, all the moisture inside will be pushed out. If you do not see sizzling on the ends, the wood is not wet. Generally if you are having trouble burning in your pizza oven and there is no sizzling, it means the piece of wood is probably too big. You should try to re-split the wood according to the size recommendation  in the manual for your pizza oven. If you cannot split the wood yourself, consider getting an electric wood splitter, otherwise we have fire-starters and kindling available which can help get your fire burning better.

Ooni / Roccbox

We have recently started stocking wood custom made for Ooni and Roccbox pizza ovens

Feel free to contact us if you have any questions

Do I need to call ahead?

For these bags, because of the demand slowly picking up, we recommend calling ahead as we do not keep as many in stock as our standard bags

How much do they cost?

The bags are $50 each before tax.

How big is the wood?

The wood is custom split specifically for the small pizza ovens. The wood is 1"x1"x5"
